Cancer Markers Panel

Tumor markers or Cancer markers are substances found in higher-than-normal levels in the blood, urine, or tissues of some people with cancer. The Cancer marker tests check to see if you have these substances in your body and in what amounts.

  • CA19-9  Blood Test (Pancreatic Cancer): High levels of CA 19-9 are often a sign of pancreatic cancer. But sometimes, high levels can indicate other types of cancer or certain noncancerous disorders, including cirrhosis and gallstones. Because high levels of CA 19-9 can mean different things, the test is not used by itself to screen for or diagnose cancer.

  • CA 15-3:  Measures the amount of the protein CA15-3 in your blood. Is used to monitor response to breast cancer treatment and disease recurrence. The reference range of serum CA 15-3 is less than 30 U/mL. The upper limit of the range varies depending on the laboratory and kit used for the test. Values obtained with different assay kits, methods, or laboratories cannot be used interchangeably.
  • CA 125 Ovarian Cancer): measures the amount of the protein CA 125 (cancer antigen 125) in the blood. This test may be used to monitor certain cancers during and after treatment. In some situations, the test may be used to look for early signs of ovarian cancer in people with a very high risk of the disease.

  • CEA:  stands for carcinoembryonic antigen. It is a protein found in the tissues of a developing baby. CEA levels normally become very low or disappear after birth. Healthy adults should have very little or no CEA in their body. This test measures the amount of CEA in the blood, and sometimes in other body fluids.
